About Us
The Florentine Box follows artistic traditions dating from 17th century Florentine cofanetti, those intricate small boxes originally crafted from wood, ivory, silver and gold designed for safekeeping jewels, documents, maps, and other valuables. Wonderful examples can be seen in the fabulous collections of Florentine museums.

The Florentine Box has applied these same artistic traditions to designing intricate mirrors, lap box tables, and jewel boxes. Each piece is, fashioned, gilded and painted by hand incorporating components commissioned in and brought directly from contemporary Florentine artisans.
These Florentine components include specially colored and hand-printed Florentine marbled papers; ceramic tiles; intricate miniature carved wood moldings; gold and silver leaf; silk tassels; miniature handles, fixtures, and mirrored glass.
The design and crafting of each piece can involve upwards of 75 - 100 hours of intricate hand making. Each piece from The Florentine Box represents a unique, contemporary interpretation of this centuries-old tradition from that Renaissance City on the Arno.

Bedginning prices for our work range between $2,000 and $2,500 Specially commissioned pieces are priced in accordance with client-requested design.
